New Delhi/Noida, March 28 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first phase (Phase-1) of Noida International Airport on Saturday. With the opening of this airport, connectivity in Delhi-NCR will improve and travel will become easier, and will also strengthen the economy of the state.
Built at a cost of around Rs 11,200 crore, this mega infrastructure project is being developed and operated by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. Central and state government also have participation in this project.
Located near the Yamuna Expressway, this airport is the second civil airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) and is considered to be one of the largest greenfield airport projects in India.
This airport has received an aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in March 2026, in which ‘all weather operation’ has been allowed. This means that there are modern navigation systems, runway lighting and air traffic systems in place, which will enable aircraft to take off and land smoothly even in low visibility.
The initial capacity of the airport is 1.2 crore passengers annually, which can be increased to 7 crore in future.
In the first phase, a 3,900 meter long runway has been built, which can handle large aircraft (wide-body aircraft). ILS system has been installed at both ends of this runway, so that aircraft can land from any side according to the wind direction.
A modern lighting system has also been installed along the runway, so that flight operations can take place smoothly even at night and in bad weather.
Apart from this, this airport will be the first airport in the country to have in-house maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility. The cargo handling capacity here is also quite large, which will be able to handle more than 2.5 lakh metric tons of goods annually.
Noida International Airport is being developed as a major international gateway for NCR. This will improve connectivity between the country and abroad and strengthen India’s aviation sector.
The airport is also being developed as a multi-modal transport hub, where there will be better coordination of road, rail, metro and other transport services, thereby enhancing facilities for both passengers and freight.
Along with this, for information, let us tell you that UP, which was the expressway state, the most metro operated state, the first state to operate rapid rail as well as the first inland waterway, is now the proud state of having the most international and domestic airports with Noida International Airport.
