Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is going to bring a big convenience for Aadhaar users. Soon, people will be able to update their address and mobile number registered in Aadhaar from the comfort of their homes using the Aadhaar app. This will eliminate the need to go to the enrollment centre, carry documents or stand in long queues.
Now there is no need to go to Aadhaar center
Currently, changing mobile number or address requires visiting an Aadhaar centre, where the process of identity verification and document submission takes place. This process is quite difficult for the elderly, disabled persons and people living in remote areas. This new feature from UIDAI aims to reduce these challenges, making the update process faster, easier and completely digital.
Digital verification facility in Aadhaar app
UIDAI has announced on X (earlier Twitter) that a digital authentication feature will soon be available in the Aadhaar app for updating mobile number and address. Address update will be completely online, while changing mobile number will require OTP verification and face authentication.
How will the online update process work?
This new feature will include a two-step verification process. First, users will receive a one-time password (OTP) on their existing or new mobile number. After this, face authentication will be done inside the app, in which the live facial data will be matched with the Aadhaar records. This will verify your identity securely without any document. Users will have to enter their Aadhaar number, select their preferred language, verify OTP and complete face authentication. Apart from this, for better security, a 6-digit security PIN has to be set in the app.
This feature is coming soon
UIDAI has said that this feature will be launched soon. Users are advised to install the Aadhaar app (available on both Android and iOS) on their smartphones now. All updates related to the feature launch will be shared on the official channels of UIDAI. This step is being considered an important step towards making Aadhaar services completely digital and user-friendly.
