Now UPI will also run in Qatar, NPCI International partnership with Qatar National Bank

New Delhi, 24 September (IANS). NPCI International Payments Limited (NPIL) announced a partnership with Qatar National Bank on Wednesday to strengthen India’s digital payment system. With this partnership, the facility of accepting the QR Code based Unified Payment Interface (UPI) through all point-off cell (POS) terminal in Qatar has been started for traders associated with QNB.

NPCI says that with this step, Indian travelers will be able to pay UPI at major tourist destinations and Qatar duty free outlets in Qatar. This is the first merchant, which is live on UPI.

Qatar is the second largest group of Indian tourists. This partnership will help them to do real-time transactions across the country. Apart from this, Qatar’s retail and tourism sector will also benefit, as the acceptance of the UPI payment will increase the transaction volume of QNB customers.

Regarding this partnership, NPCI International MD and CEO Ritesh Shukla said, “Our goal is to make UPI popular worldwide and create a global payment network that can work with everyone. This partnership with QNB is an important step in this direction.”

He further said that this will help millions of Indian travelers in safe and easy digital transactions as well as their dependence on cash. As UPI becomes popular, we are focusing on promoting interoperability and making users cross-border payment.

QNB’s Group Chief Business Officer, Yusaf Mahmood Al-Nema said, “We are very happy to start UPI in Qatar as well as we are proud to be at the forefront of the field of innovation in the payment system. This milestone will not only facilitate Indian travelers, but also promote retail and tourism sector by promoting cashless transactions, but strengthening the tourism sector in the payment incense. By increasing the market of Qatar, it will also give significant benefits. “

He said that this will help to increase business by attracting more customers to local traders and providing them easy digital payment options.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Retail and Hospitality Officer, Mushth said, “Qatar duty free, we are committed to improving passengers’ convenience and access. As the first company to start UPI as a payment option in Qatar, we are proud to give Indian travelers easy, safe and cashless transactions on our outlets.

He further stated that this partnership with NPCI International and Qatar National Bank reflects our dedication to adopt new payment solutions that meet the changing needs of diverse customers. By incorporating UPI, our goal is to improve retail experience at Hammad International Airport, so that millions of passengers can be able to travel further.
