London/New Delhi, June 27 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said he had a fruitful roundtable meeting with Asia House and senior executives of the world’s leading companies, in which detailed discussions were held on strengthening the economic partnership and future opportunities.
India’s strong manufacturing ecosystem and the immense opportunities that exist across sectors were highlighted during the meeting, he said in a post on social media platform ‘X’. He said that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) will play an important role in further strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
Piyush Goyal also held an interactive lunch meeting with members of the UK-India Business Council (UKIBC), in which he discussed with top executives (C-suite representatives) of the world’s leading companies to promote India-UK economic cooperation.
He further said, “The main objective of the discussion was to deepen cooperation in various sectors to open up new opportunities, accelerate investment and promote shared development as well as to further strengthen India’s global competitiveness.”
The Commerce Minister also addressed faculty, students, alumni and industry representatives at the London Business School. Apart from this, he also participated in a special fireside chat there.
He said that education has an important role in strengthening the relations between India and Britain. Students, professionals and entrepreneurs can contribute significantly to strengthening cooperation, innovation and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
He also said that India-UK CETA will open doors to new opportunities for both the countries and will take the partnership to new heights in various fields.
Piyush Goyal has arrived in Britain with one of India’s largest-ever business delegations, comprising over 160 leading Indian companies, with an aim to strengthen the historic economic partnership at the grassroots level.
Earlier, while addressing the Business Plenary session, he had said that relations between India and Britain are strengthening rapidly. The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is going to come into effect from July 15, 2026, will add a new chapter in the relations between the two countries.
He said it was encouraging to interact with industry leaders from different sectors. The implementation of India-UK CETA will open up new opportunities for development. He appealed to the businessmen of both the countries to enhance cooperation, accelerate innovation and invest more for shared prosperity.
Piyush Goyal also participated in the welcome ceremony of the Indian women’s cricket team. During this, he said that the Indian women’s cricket team is becoming an inspiration for millions of young girls, players and the entire country with its brilliant performance, determination and excellence.
Wishing the team all the best for the upcoming matches of the Women’s T20 World Cup, he said that he is confident that the Indian team will bring glory to the country and return after winning the World Cup trophy.
