New Delhi, May 18 (IANS). Indian Railways on Monday released the design of India’s first bullet train to run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor.

The Railway Ministry displayed the picture of the proposed bullet train in its office in New Delhi. The picture of the country’s first proposed bullet train has been displayed at the Railway Ministry, the ministry said in a statement. It has been installed at gate number 4.

Earlier in February, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had informed the Lok Sabha that the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat and the union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

This corridor will include 12 stations – Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.

According to the ministry, foundation work has already been completed at eight stations in Gujarat (Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati).

Construction work is currently underway in Thane, Virar and Boisar in Maharashtra, while the excavation work at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station is almost complete.

The project has also made significant progress in the infrastructure of the bridges. Construction of seventeen river bridges has been completed, while construction work of four major bridges on Narmada, Mahi, Tapti and Sabarmati rivers in Gujarat is ongoing. Construction work of four additional river bridges is going on in Maharashtra.

Almost 91 percent of the excavation work at the underground BKC station has been completed. A 4.8 km long sea tunnel has also been constructed between Ghansoli and Shilphata.

The MAHSR project is being developed under the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, with Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory and Bengaluru-based BEML Limited jointly developing train sets capable of achieving a design speed of 280 kmph.

Vaishnav had earlier said that the entire 1,389.5 hectares of land required for the project has been acquired as per applicable laws.

Compensation has been paid to the affected families under state laws and the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.

The government said rehabilitation and resettlement measures have been taken in coordination with the governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra, as well as additional benefits and compensation to the affected people.
