Gandhinagar, December 3 (IANS). Special preparations are going on in Gujarat for the last supermoon to be seen on December 4, 2025. To make this special astronomical event accessible to the people and to increase curiosity among students, teachers and general public, Gujarat Council on Science and Technology has organized a special program.
A supermoon occurs when the moon comes closest to Earth in its orbit, called perigee, making it appear larger and brighter than a normal full moon. This natural wonder not only enhances the beauty of the night sky, but also serves as a powerful reminder of the coordination, speed and precision of our celestial sphere.
Sky events like Supermoon provide a great opportunity to connect people, especially young students, with the wonders of space science.
Dr. Narottam Sahu, Advisor, Gujarat Council on Science and Technology, said, “The Supermoon is not just going to be exciting to watch but it is also an open classroom in the sky. Seeing it, young minds will get an opportunity to ask questions, dream of exploration and understand.”
All the regional science centers of Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Patan and Rajkot, along with the district science centres, will provide the facility to view the moon through a telescope. Here trained teachers will show the supermoon while guiding children and people.
Astronomy experts will explain the different forms of the moon, its movement and why supermoon occurs, in a simple and interesting way.
There will be interactive sessions for children and families, models of lunar craters and special exhibitions related to space. Here children will be able to learn by experimenting themselves.
Sky enthusiasts from across Gujarat can join the experience through simultaneous online broadcast from a few centres. Amateur astronomers and young photographers will have prime spots to capture the supermoon.
This is a state-wide initiative which will help children and people to learn science, take interest in it and develop scientific temper. It is being organized under the commitment of Gujarat Council on Science and Technology.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend this event. This opportunity to see the last supermoon of the year will be celebrated with curiosity, discovery and wonder.
Seeing the last supermoon of 2025 will enlighten the mind, inspire the heart and mark the beginning of our journey into the universe.
