New Delhi, March 5 (IANS). The transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the health sector can be fully realized only when it is developed on a strong foundation of trust, ethics and inclusion. This was said in an official statement issued on Thursday.
The statement further said that reducing the diagnostic gap in health services, eliminating algorithmic bias and providing equal access to health services to all people is possible only when clear policies are made, diverse and high-quality data is available and health workers are trained to work with AI.
The vision of ‘AI for All’ demands that an AI ecosystem be built that works for every patient, irrespective of region, income group, language or geography.
In this direction, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently released the AI strategy for India’s healthcare sector ‘SAHI’ (Strategy for AI in Healthcare for India) during the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ held in New Delhi.
SAHI creates a national framework that aims to guide the responsible incorporation of AI into India’s health system. In this, AI is considered an important tool to strengthen the health system, but it is also said that it should be used keeping in mind the public interest, trust and long-term health system strength.
The discussions held during the summit also revealed that for better use of AI, diversity in health data, accountable and trustworthy AI systems and use of AI for public interest are very important.
Launched as a national framework, SAHI provides a clear roadmap for implementing AI in healthcare, aimed at providing direction to policymakers, healthcare providers and technology developers on how to adopt AI responsibly, so that innovation is aligned with medical needs, regulatory standards, equity and public trust.
BODH (Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI) was also launched during the summit. This platform will provide a systematic mechanism to ensure testing and validation of health AI solutions before they are implemented on a large scale.
This platform will play an important role in ensuring that AI tools used by doctors are safe, reliable and tested in real conditions. Trust, security and accountability must be given utmost importance in India’s health AI journey.
The BODH (Bodh) platform has been developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in collaboration with the National Health Authority.
The SAHI strategy, the need for diversity in health data, the need for reliable AI systems and testing platforms like Bodh – all these topics discussed at AI Summit 2026 made it clear that AI in the health sector can bring a big change in the future.
