New Delhi, March 18 (IANS). The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the Bharat Industrial Development Scheme (Grand Scheme). Under this scheme, 100 plug-and-play industrial parks will be created across the country at a cost of Rs 33,660 crore, with the aim of accelerating economic growth and increasing employment opportunities.
According to an official statement, the objective of this scheme is to create world-class industrial infrastructure, which will increase the manufacturing capacity of the country and give a new impetus to India’s economic growth.
The scheme is based on the success of the Industrial Smart City model created under the National Industrial Corridor Development Program (NICDP), which will be implemented with the participation of states and the private sector.
In the ‘Bhavya’ scheme, special emphasis has been laid on ease of doing business. Under this, the approval process will be simplified, a single window system will be implemented and investor-friendly reforms will be made.
Under this scheme, such industrial parks will be created where industries will get ready-made land, necessary infrastructure and all the facilities at one place, so that companies will be able to start work quickly.
The size of these industrial parks will range from 100 to 1,000 acres. The government will provide financial assistance of up to Rs 1 crore per acre for their development. This will include facilities like roads, electricity-water, drainage, IT system, factory shed, warehouse and testing lab.
Apart from this, housing and other social facilities for workers will also be developed under the scheme. Support up to 25 percent of the project cost will also be provided for external infrastructure to ensure better connectivity.
The projects will be selected through Challenge Mode, whereby only the best and investment ready proposals will be selected.
These industrial parks will be designed keeping the future in mind and will be developed as per the principles of PM GatiShakti to provide multimodal connectivity and better logistics facilities.
Besides, emphasis will also be laid on green energy and better use of resources in these parks. Due to underground utility system, there will be no need for frequent digging and the work of industries will continue without interruption.
The government believes that the ‘grand’ scheme will generate employment on a large scale, which will include both direct and indirect jobs in manufacturing, logistics and service sectors.
This scheme will be implemented in all the states and union territories of the country, which will provide employment opportunities to lakhs of people and give impetus to industrial development.
The statement further said that through cluster-based development, the scheme will bring together industries, suppliers and service providers, thereby strengthening the supply chain and promoting regional industrialization.
Manufacturing units, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups and global investors will directly benefit from this scheme, while indirectly it will also benefit workers, logistics companies, service sector and local people.
