New Delhi, May 14 (IANS). The world of space is full of mysteries and surprising information. There are many questions that arouse curiosity. One such question is, what preparations do astronauts make before sleeping in space? American space agency NASA has answered this question through an interesting video clip taken during the Artemis II mission.
NASA posted a video of the 8th flight day of the Artemis II mission on social media platform X, writing, “Prepare to sleep with us… A sleep routine is important, especially in space.”
In the video clip, all four members of the mission – Commander Reed Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen – were seen completing their entire checklist before sleeping. In the video, he is seen making preparations for sleeping in a systematic manner.
Due to the lack of gravity in space, even small everyday things become challenging. Therefore, NASA astronauts check all these things very carefully before sleeping so that there is no problem during the night and they can rest safely. What do astronauts check before sleeping? In the video, astronauts are heard completing the checklist one by one:-
Sleeping bags are properly fitted, cabin luggage is in the right place. Are the cleanliness arrangements okay, are there any obstructions in the hygiene bay. Are air inlets, diffusers, negative and positive pressure relief systems checked and emergency equipment clean and easily accessible? Are all flammable items stored in nonflammable containers? Lithium-ion batteries have not been placed near windows, displays have been turned off. Check whether the audio has been put into sleep mode or not and finally check whether the cabin lights have been switched off or not.
The astronaut’s voice can be clearly heard in the video, “We are starting… are you guys ready to turn off the lights?” And the rest of the members say “ready”.
