WhatsApp for CarPlay—a separate application—has been launched by the company for the vehicle’s infotainment system. This is considered a “major update”. This new WhatsApp app for CarPlay is now available in India and other markets across the world. This new app brings many new capabilities and features for users. Previously, WhatsApp for CarPlay was only available in beta through the TestFlight app, which was available only to developers and users in the iOS beta program. According to the report, earlier such features were seen in this app through which users could see their WhatsApp chat and call history. It is being told that now these features have also been released in the stable version of the app.
WhatsApp for CarPlay supports end-to-end encryption
On Tuesday, the instant messaging platform released version 26.13.74 of WhatsApp for iOS, which included several bug fixes. However, the most important aspect of this new update is the introduction of a separate and exclusive WhatsApp app for CarPlay, which is designed specifically for the car’s infotainment system. Calling it a “major update”, WhatsApp announced the launch of WhatsApp for CarPlay through an event post on the App Store. WABetaInfo was the first to report this development.
The company says that WhatsApp for CarPlay is currently available in select markets around the world, including India. This allows users to call and send messages to “Friends and Groups” directly from their vehicle’s infotainment system, provided their iPhone is connected to the system. Although WhatsApp has not yet released complete information about all the features available in this new CarPlay app, it is being said that the features which were earlier seen in the beta version have now been included in the stable release.
According to the report, the WhatsApp for CarPlay app has two separate sections designed to show chats and call history. With this, users can easily see who they have recently called or sent messages through WhatsApp. Users can initiate a call directly from their vehicle’s dashboard interface. However, to open the chat window, users have to stop the vehicle and view the chat on their phone. It is being said that this step has been taken to ensure that users do not get distracted while driving.
According to the information available, users will reportedly be able to respond to WhatsApp messages using voice dictation. Until now, users had to rely on Siri to read incoming messages out loud and send replies. There will be no need for it now. Additionally, both WhatsApp calls and normal phone calls will appear on the same screen. However, with the WhatsApp for CarPlay app, users will be able to view their recent WhatsApp calls on a separate screen.
