New Delhi, June 22 (IANS). The government said on Monday that the new Aadhaar app has crossed the 3.1 crore download mark in less than five months of its launch. This app is being rapidly accepted among people across the country.
The IT Ministry said that so far about 40 lakh people have updated their mobile numbers through the new Aadhaar app. Around 8.5 lakh people have updated their address using this app.
The ministry said that the increasing popularity of the app is an indication that people are now relying more on digital services sitting at home.
The new Aadhaar app is available on both Android and Apple iOS platforms.
Through this app designed with the aim of making people’s lives easier, mobile number update, address update and many other services can be availed directly from the smartphone. The app provides Aadhaar holders with a convenient and privacy-centric means to show, share and verify their identity.
The app comes with a host of useful features, including one-click biometric lock and unlock, face verification for attendance proof, authentication history, and QR-based editable contact cards for sharing contact information.
Additionally, users can download e-Aadhaar and also easily book an online appointment to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK).
The Aadhaar app can be used for many real-life services, including checking-in at a hotel by scanning the QR code of the Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE).
The app provides many features like hospital admission, visitor management, admission to events, identity verification of gig workers and identity verification of various service partners.
The government recently said that within just three months of the launch of the Aadhaar-based offline verification system, at least 100 entities have been added as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs).
This achievement by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is considered an important step towards a secure, consent-based and completely paperless identity verification system.
Under this arrangement, Aadhaar verification does not require real-time access to the central database, further strengthening the privacy and security of users.
