In this wedding, both the bride and groom are robots. But humans have got the marriage done. There was a lot of applause in a hall full of guests when the groom wearing a suit and the bride wearing a wedding gown entered. According to the organizers, this is the first robotic wedding in the history of Russia. In this unique marriage, the name of the robot who became groom is ‘Robert’ and the name of robot who became bride is ‘Matilda’.
Dogmatic brought ‘Jaymala’
This wedding, organized in the famous ‘Pushkin Library’ of Moscow, was completed in a very traditional style. Social media and YouTube videos are becoming increasingly viral. In the video, groom Robert and bride Matilda are seen wearing special dresses for the wedding. Both of them took vows in front of each other in a pre-programmed marriage. Robotic dog ‘Dogmatic’ was also much talked about. ‘Dogmatic’ reached the stage carrying the wedding bracelets. After this, both the robots put the bracelet on each other with movements, after which the host declared them “robot husband and wife”.
Surprisingly, the day chosen for this high-tech wedding is related to a very old cultural tradition of Russia. The wedding was held during Russia’s celebration of ‘Day of Family, Love and Fidelity’. This special festival is celebrated every year on 8th July in Russia. The day is celebrated in memory of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, who are considered symbols of faithful marriage and lifelong devotion in the Russian Orthodox tradition.
Have robots really fallen in love?
After the video of this wedding went viral, a debate has erupted on social media whether robots can also feel emotions like humans? However, the developers and organizers who created the robots have clarified that it was just a pre-programmed scripted show. Its purpose was not to erase the difference between humans and machines or to show emotions in robots. Rather, it was to show how advanced our domestic robots have become. They are also capable of talking, recognizing voices and performing complex movements without any human help.
