US MPs and community leaders termed President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a fee of $ 1,00,000 on H-1B visa applications as “prudent” and “unfortunate”, as well as feared the move to have a “very negative” impact on the information technology (IT) industry.

MP Raja Krishnamurthy said that Trump’s decision to levy a fee of $ 1,00,000 on H-1B visa is “a terrible attempt to overcome highly skilled workers from the US, who has long strengthened our workforce, promoted innovation and helped establish employment industries to millions of Americans.”

Krishnamurthy said that many H-1B visa holders eventually become citizens and start businesses that create good salary jobs in the US.

He said, “When other countries are competing to attract global talents, America should also strengthen its workforce as well as modernize the immigration system. America should not create obstacles that weaken our economy and security.”

Former President who was his advisor during Biden’s tenure and Ajay Bhutoria, a leader of the Asian-American community on immigration policy, warned Trump’s new plan to increase the H1-B fee and warned him to crisis on the competitive edge of the US technology sector.

Bhutoria said, ‘Under the H-1B program attracting top talent from all over the world, a fee of US $ 2000 to 5000 was currently being charged. In such a situation, there is an unprecedented crisis on this, which will crush small businesses and startups dependent on talented workers.

Bhutoria said that the move will remove skilled professionals who strengthen silicon valley and contribute billions of dollars to the US economy. He said that this step could be reversed as talented workers may have to go to competitors like Canada or Europe.

Khanderao Kand of ‘Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies’ said that imposing a 100,000 US dollars on H1B visas is a very unfortunate decision that will have a very negative impact on businesses and technology industry, especially on businesses.
