Gunmen have launched a major attack in Kwara and Katsina states of Nigeria. There has been news of around 200 people being killed in this violence. This is considered to be the biggest violence in this area in months. According to reports, gunmen targeted Woro community and surrounding areas on Tuesday, causing an atmosphere of fear in the entire area.
Most devastation in Kwara
Officials have informed that the situation is worst in the Woro community of Kwara State. More than 170 people have lost their lives here. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers took people hostage and opened fire on them. After this they set fire to many houses and shops. Local MP Saidu Baba Ahmed is present at the spot along with the army and is working to remove the bodies. Many people are still reported missing, the search for whom is going on.
Door to door attack in Katsina
A separate attack also took place in the Doma community of Katsina state. About 21 to 23 people have been confirmed dead here. Local Faskari LGA Chairman Surajo Aliyu said that the attackers went door to door and targeted people. The attack came after a six-month peace deal with the bandits broke down. Police spokesman Adetoun Ejire-Adeyem said police and army teams were searching for the attackers in the forest and security had been stepped up.
