A 23 -year -old UK student Mia O’Brien has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Dubai court. Mia, who was a resident of Liverpool and studying law, is now lodged in Dubai’s Central Jail.
Mia’s mother Daniel McCaina (46) says it was a “very stupid mistake” and she has not seen her daughter since October. He said that Mia was a straightforward girl, but after coming to the company of wrong people, she took the wrong decision and now she has to pay a big price for it.
What is the whole matter
According to media reports, 50 grams of class-A drug was recovered from Mia in October, which was worth about 2,500 pounds (about ₹ 3 lakh). Keeping or smuggling drugs under strict UAE laws can lead to a sentence of 15 to 25 years. However, Mia’s family did not mention the crime and just called a “big mistake”.
