US President Donald Trump has claimed that he had stopped the ongoing attacks between India and Pakistan by threatening to impose 350 percent tariff and after this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called him and said, “We will not go to war.”
He said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called him and thanked him for saving millions of lives in front of White House Chief of Staff Suzie Wills.
Trump has repeated this claim more than 60 times that he helped stop the war between India and Pakistan in May this year. However, India has consistently denied any third party interference. At the same time, Pakistan has been agreeing to Trump’s claims.
Trump said on Wednesday, I am an expert in resolving disputes, and always have been. I’ve done a pretty good job at it over the years, even before. I was talking about different wars…India, Pakistan…they were thinking about nuclear weapons. Speaking at the US-Saudi Investment Forum, Trump said he told both nuclear-armed neighbors that they can fight, but I am imposing 350 percent tariffs on both countries. No more trade with America.
Claiming that both India and Pakistan had asked him not to do so, Trump said: “I told them I would do it.” Get back to me and I’ll remove it. But I’m not going to let you shoot nuclear weapons at each other, kill millions of people, and blow nuclear dust over Los Angeles. I won’t do that. After this, Trump said that he is fully prepared and told Finance Minister Scott Besant that he will impose 350 percent tariff to resolve (the conflict). He further said that if both the countries stop the war, we will have a good trade deal, as they are negotiating for a trade deal.
Now, no other president does this…I used tariffs to solve all these wars, Trump said. Five of the eight wars resolved over economics, trade, and tariffs. I did it.
Trump claimed that he got a call from Prime Minister Modi and he said, our work is done. I asked, is your work done? Trump said and claimed Modi replied: We are not going to war. Trump said he then thanked Modi and said, let’s make a deal. The US President also said that they have saved millions of lives in many other wars. A day earlier too, during a bilateral meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince in the Oval Office, Trump had reiterated his claim of stopping the war between India and Pakistan.
Since Trump announced on social media on May 10 that India and Pakistan had agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire after long night talks brokered by Washington, he has repeated more than 60 times the claim that he had helped resolve the war between India and Pakistan. India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam attack.
