Russia’s Science and Higher Education Deputy Minister Constantin Mogilevsky has spoken of expansion of Hindi language in Russian universities. He says that the popularity of Hindi in Russia is continuously increasing and they want more and more students to read Hindi.
Mogilevsky explained that today India is the most populous country in the world and now most Indians are using Hindi instead of English in their daily life. In such a situation, Russia should also pay attention to this. He told that today Russian youth have more opportunities than ever before learning Hindi.
Hindi is being taught in big institutions like MGIMO, RSUH, MOSCOW State University Institute of Asian and African Studies and Moscow State Linguistic University in Moscow. The number of students studying Hindi is increasing rapidly and now the number of groups has already increased to two to three times. Apart from Moscow, the trend of learning Hindi is also increasing at St. Petersburg State University and Kazan Federal University.
Indian community in Russia
The estimated number of Indian community in Russia is around 14,000.
Around 500 Indian businessmen live there, of which more than 200 are in Moscow.
Around 300 Indian companies are registered in Russia, mainly trading tea, coffee, tobacco, medicines, rice, spices, leather shoes, granite, IT and apparel.
Some Indian companies have also launched joint ventures in mining, food processing and pharmaceutical areas there.
Around 4,500 Indian students are studying in Russia’s medical and technical institutions. About 90% of these students are studying medical, while the rest of the students are studying in areas like Engineering, Aeronautical Design, Computer Science, Transport Technology, Management, Agriculture and Financial Management.
