The Government of India has issued a very important security advisory for all its citizens living in Iran on 23 February 2026. The Ministry of External Affairs has said in clear words that all Indian citizens who are in Iran should leave from there immediately. The situation there is deteriorating rapidly and it is very important to take this step in view of security. The government has asked people to use commercial flights.
What is the new advisory and rules of the government?
The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Tehran have advised all Indians to leave Iran by available flights or by road. Along with this, it has also been said that people should avoid any kind of non-essential travel to Iran. People who are staying there have been asked to keep their passports and important travel related documents ready with them at all times.
The Embassy has also directed that Indians who have not yet registered themselves with the Embassy should immediately register themselves by visiting the official website. Citizens have also been advised to stay away from protest areas and keep an eye on local media news to avoid any trouble.
Why has the situation suddenly worsened?
America has deployed more than 50 of its modern fighter aircraft in the Middle East, which includes aircraft like F-22 and F-35. Apart from this, a big warship of the US Navy has also been sent to this area. This tension has increased after the failure of nuclear talks in Geneva and the protests taking place in Iran’s universities.
Many reports and experts believe that between February 24 and 25, the US Army may take action against some Iranian targets. In view of this danger, the Indian Embassy has warned that the facility of commercial flights can be stopped at any time, hence people should make their own arrangements for evacuation without waiting for government help.
