After the attacks on Iran’s South Pars gas field, the gas supply to Iraq has completely stopped. The attacks, which took place on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, caused massive damage to the gas treatment facility. This change is expected to have a major impact on electricity production in Iraq because Iraq meets a large part of its energy needs from Iran.
🚨: Danger of attack on oil bases of UAE and Saudi Arabia, Iran warns people to move away.
What will be the impact on Iraq due to stoppage of gas supply?
Iraq’s Electricity Ministry has confirmed that the supply of gas coming from Iran has now come to zero. Earlier too, when the supply had stopped, 4,000 to 5,500 MW of power was reduced from the National Grid. Iraq meets about 30-40 percent of its total energy needs from Iranian gas. Currently, the Iraqi government is working on domestic fuel alternatives to prevent power shortage. There is a possibility of severe electricity shortage for the common people in the coming days.
