Kuwait’s military successfully intercepted several ‘enemy air targets’ in the southern part of the country on Sunday morning (1 March 2026) and destroyed them in the air. Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Saud al-Atwan has confirmed this and said that the army is fully prepared for the security of the country. The incident occurred at a time when tensions between the US, Israel and Iran are high in the region and retaliatory attacks are being witnessed.
What happened in the morning and what is your advice to people?
According to the official statement of the ministry, Kuwait Air Defense Force foiled these attacks by showing its capability. There was no news of anyone being injured in the incident that took place on Sunday morning, but earlier on Saturday, three soldiers were slightly injured by falling debris in the attacks on Ali Al-Salem Air Base. The Army has given strict instructions to all the citizens and expatriates living there not to touch or go near any metal piece or strange object lying on the ground. If you see anything suspicious, immediately report it to emergency number 112.
What was the impact on airports and flights?
Keeping security in mind, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had temporarily closed Kuwait’s airspace for all commercial and passenger flights on Saturday evening. Due to this, many flights at Kuwait International Airport have been canceled and passengers have faced delays. Expatriates traveling to India and other countries are advised to contact their airlines before traveling to the airport. At present, Kuwait Army is in ‘full combat readiness’ mode and surveillance of the borders has been increased.
