A case regarding citizenship has come to light in Kuwait which has surprised both the administration and the general public. Here, during the investigation of the file of a single family, a huge fraud has been revealed. A Kuwaiti citizen had registered 6 wives and 18 children in his file. When the officials investigated it deeply, it was revealed that all this was a well-planned conspiracy. After this fraud was caught, the citizenship of more than 200 people is now in danger.
What was found in the investigation and how was it revealed?
When Kuwait’s Nationality Investigation Department opened the file of this case, they found many irregularities. The person whose file was being checked had shown in the records that he had 6 wives. Investigation suspects that the identity of one of the wives was completely fake. Apart from this, the names of a total of 18 children were recorded in the file.
Officials have confirmed that 4 out of these 18 children were added in a completely fraudulent manner. That means he had no real relationship with that person. The matter does not end here, these 4 fake people later grew their own families, which include children and grandchildren. Thus, there are a total of 226 people who were taking advantage of Kuwaiti citizenship due to this fraud.
At present the investigation of two more names is going on very closely. If both of these are also proved to be fake, then the number of fake children will increase to 6 and the number of people affected will increase further.
How did DNA and Google Maps reveal the truth?
To solve this complex case, Kuwaiti police and investigative agencies took the help of modern technology. Instead of just relying on papers, he gathered scientific evidence.
DNA test: This proved to be the most important part of the investigation. Genetic testing made it clear that some people who were claiming to be part of the family had no blood relation to that family. A person who was living as a brother was also caught.
Google Maps: An accused who was absconding for a long time was tracked with the help of Google Maps. His ‘Kuwaiti Diwan’ (meeting) was listed on the map under his real name, which was completely different from his Kuwaiti identity.
Social Media: Investigating officers searched old posts on social media. People had used the real Gulf names (real identities) of the accused in congratulatory messages for weddings and other events, which became a major evidence for the police.
Government’s strict stance and rules
This entire matter is being monitored by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef himself. He has made it clear that citizenship is a ‘red line’ and it is a matter of national security. The government has made it clear that no matter how old the crime is, it will not be spared.
The government has adopted the policy of ‘Continuous Pursuit’. Those who have fled the country to avoid investigation are also being tightened. The rules are strict now—the accused have to come back and take a DNA test. If they do not join the investigation, their citizenship will be immediately cancelled. This campaign is going on across the country so that people who are taking benefits illegally can be thrown out of the system.
