Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman has issued three important royal decrees on Wednesday, 11 February 2026. The main objective of these decrees is to bring Oman’s industrial and customs laws into line with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) standards. Apart from this, a new appointment has also been made expanding the diplomatic relations of the country.

What is said about the laws in the royal decree?
The first two decrees issued by the Sultan are directly related to the regulations of trade and industry. The ‘Unified GCC Industrial Law’ has been approved through Royal Decree No. 27/2026. This new law will come into force 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. With its coming the old law of 2008 will be repealed.
At the same time, some provisions of the ‘GCC Common Customs Law’ have been amended in Royal Decree No. 28/2026. This change will become effective from the next day of official publication. These changes had already been reviewed and approved by the Council of Oman.
What was the decision on diplomatic appointment?
Under the third order, i.e. Royal Decree No. 29/2026, an important responsibility has been assigned at the diplomatic level. Oman’s current ambassador to Spain, Thamer bin Fayez bin Khalfan Al Aliwi, has been given additional responsibilities.
