Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad Reza Amiri Moghaddam has said there have been no talks between Washington and Tehran, while US President Donald Trump indicated that peace talks have taken place between the two sides.
According to IRNA news, the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan said, “The current war is the result of the US’s betrayal of the negotiations.”
Earlier, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon denied any knowledge of possible peace talks between Iran, the United States and Israel.
Addressing the media at the United Nations on Tuesday (local time), he said the goal was to ensure Iran could not acquire nuclear capability.
He said, “I am not aware of our participation in such talks. It is important to note that we are continuing our campaign. Right now, Israel and the US are targeting military targets in Iran. We will continue to do that. Now, when you talk about talks, we know that at the end of any campaign or conflict there has to be diplomacy. And we will ensure that Iran no longer has a nuclear capability, no ballistic missiles, and we will achieve those goals. “Achieve what we set out a month ago.”
He added, “I think we have achieved a lot. I’m not sure the Iranians understand it, but we have achieved a lot. We have weakened the regime. But we have to make sure that we don’t put them in a position to go back to the same situation. We want to create a different reality on the ground.”
The Israeli envoy claimed that Israel has always advocated peace in the region while the Islamic regime has been the opposite.
Dannon said, “We should be asking ourselves this question about every nation: Who is bringing stability to the region and who is bringing chaos to the region? Israel is the power to bring stability to the region. We want peace. Let me answer that. We sign peace treaties, promote peace, pray for peace. When you look at the Iranian regime, they are doing the exact opposite. They have attacked 13 countries in a month. You know. Israel has been in existence for 77 years. We have never had a war with 13 countries. So today you must have understood that Israel is the source of peace and stability.
These comments from Iran and Israel come after the US President indicated that peace talks with Iran were being initiated and the war was about to end.
He said, “We are in talks right now. I can tell you, they want to make a deal and who wouldn’t want to if you were there? Look, their navy is gone, their air force is gone, their communications system is gone. Almost everything is gone. I think we’ll knock it out. I can’t tell you for sure. We’ve won this battle… Our planes are flying over Tehran and other parts of their country. They’re not doing anything about it.” For example, if I want to demolish that power plant, they are completely defeated.
With Israel continuing to attack Iran and the Iranian military launching its 80th wave of retaliatory attacks, hopes for peace in West Asia still remain uncertain.
