Prime Minister Sushila Karki said, strict action against those responsible for death in ‘Jane Z’ demonstrations

Nepal acting Prime Minister Sushila Karki said that the government is committed to taking strict action against those responsible for the death of 74 persons including students during the protest.

After assuming the post of Prime Minister, in his first address on TV, Karki said that the government has already started the process of holding parliamentary elections on March 5. ‘Jane Z’ is called a generation that has been born between 1997 and 2012.

Prime Minister Karki appealed to all sections of the country to maintain law and order and cooperate in creating a favorable environment for conducting free, fair and transparent elections.

Karki clarified that the present government does not have a mandate to amend the Constitution or the system of governance. He said that the new Parliament will decide on these issues under the constitutional process.

Amending the constitution and changes in the system of governance include the major demands of the ‘Jane Z’ agitators.

Karki also said that the government is committed to ending corruption, ensuring good governance and improving services in accordance with public expectations.

Karki (73) was sworn in as Prime Minister on 12 September. He took over the post after the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
