Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has provided new information about its campaign to remove landmines in Yemen. The Center has said that in the last week of January 2026, its team has removed a total of 2,692 mines and explosives. This work is being done under ‘Project Masam’, the main objective of which is to make the land of Yemen safe for the common people.

What did you get in the last week of January?
Many types of dangerous explosives have been recovered in the cleaning operation conducted by the team of Project Masam in the last week of January. According to the report, the highest number of unexploded ammunition remained in this one week. Apart from this, anti-tank mines and IEDs have also been removed. A total of 7,554 explosive items have been removed in the month of January 2026 alone.
Details of the explosives removed are as follows:
Unexploded ordnance (UXO): 2,602 Anti-tank mines: 70 Anti-personnel mines: 12 Improvised explosive devices (IEDs): 8
In which areas is this campaign running?
This security operation is being conducted in many different districts of Yemen. The January 2026 report states that cleanup work has taken place in areas such as Al-Hudayda, Hadhramaut, Hajjah, Lahaj, Shabwa and Taiz. A large-scale operation was carried out, especially in Al Mukalla district of Hadhramaut. Project Masam aims to free schools, water sources, health centers and agricultural lands from landmines so that people can live normal lives.
Under this project, which started in the year 2018, a total of 5,37,505 mines and explosives have been removed so far. For this work, the project was funded again in 2024, which costs about 3 crore 59 lakh dollars. Local Yemeni people are also being trained in the project so that they can handle this work themselves in future. This entire work is done as per international standards.
