Türkiye’s Defense Ministry has informed about the deployment of Patriot missile defense system in the country. This step has been taken after NATO intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Iran in Turkish airspace. According to the Defense Ministry, this system has been installed in the eastern province of Malatya. After this incident, new arrangements are being made regarding security in the area.
Iran’s missile and NATO action
NATO forces have carried out a major action in the skies of Türkiye. NATO intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Iran after it entered Turkish airspace.
This is the second time that such a ballistic missile has been intercepted in the air. After this incident, coordination regarding security between Türkiye and NATO has increased.
Immediate steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the general public living in the area and the situation is being closely monitored.
Patriot system deployed in Malatya
Following the missile incident, the Turkish Defense Ministry officially announced the deployment of the Patriot missile defense system on 9 March 2026.
To strengthen the security of the country, this system has been installed in the eastern province of Malatya. This system has the capability to destroy any missile threat in the air itself.
This missile defense system has been activated in collaboration with NATO so that a suitable response can be given to any future air attack.
