US President Donald Trump has once again defended his tariff policy. This time he termed it as the last ‘war solution’, while claiming that it gives the US ‘ability to compromise’. Trump also justified 50 percent of tariffs imposed on India.
Talking to reporters, Trump announced the transfer of the US Space Command Headquarters to Huntsville, Alabama, and described Tariff as a magical dialogue tool, and claimed that Tariff not only promoted the American economy, but also helped them to “deal with seven wars”.
He easily ignored the economic tension arising out of some countries globally, while he attacked the Biden administration to maintain his tariff policy.
The US President announced, “Without the United States, everything in the world will end. It is true. It is very powerful. It is very powerful. And I made it really big in the first four years. Then it started deteriorating with the biden administration. But we have made it up to the level that I never thought that we could reach so soon.”
He said, “We are the fastest. We are the best. We are financially best. The money coming due to tariffs and other things is so big, but due to tariff. The tariff also attains us other things. Also, it makes us a great negotiator.”
He added, “I settled seven wars and many of them were caused by the trade trade. And many business agreements made by me were due to tariffs. This gives you the ability to have excellent conversations.”
Trump has also justified 50 percent of tariffs imposed on Indian imports, claiming that business relations between the two countries were “unilateral” for many years, while they said that there are “very well” relations between New Delhi and Washington.
Answering questions asked about the reconsideration of tariffs on India at the White House, Trump claimed that New Delhi is putting the most tariffs on the US in the world, causing unbalanced trade scenario.
The US President said, “Our relations with India are very good. But India had a unilateral relationship with India. India was charging heavy duty from us. These fees were the highest in the world and so we were not doing business with India, but they were doing business with us, because we were not charging foolish fees from them. So whatever they made, we sent it to the country but we were not paying anything, because they were not paying 100 percent.”
He highlighted the challenges faced by the company due to 200 percent tariff on imported motorcycles in India, giving the example of American motorcycle company Harley Davidson.
He said, “Harley Davidson could not sell his motorcycles in India, as there was 200 percent tariff on the motorcycle. Harley Davidson went to India and built a motorcycle plant there, and now he would not have to give tariffs.”
New Delhi is facing global uncertainties due to increased economic stress after the US imposed 50 percent of tariffs on Indian imports, including 25 percent of additional tariffs due to the purchase of Russian crude oil.
