Bihar Assembly Election 2025: The politics of Bihar has heated up since yesterday’s public meeting program held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. When Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was coming down from the stage, his steps faltered and he needed support. This incident has created a storm in the political circles of the state. A senior JDU leader, who does not want to be named, says, “Saheb’s health is fine, but age will definitely affect it. Now the discussion about the successor has intensified in the party.”
The atmosphere in the BJP office is alert. A BJP spokesperson says, “We wish Nitish ji’s health, but at the same time we also have to prepare for the next elections. This time the equation of seats may change.”
Talking about coalition politics, there are reports of bargaining between BJP and JDU regarding seat sharing. A senior BJP leader says, “In 2020, we had contested elections on 121 seats, this time our demand was for 135 seats. This demand was justified considering the population and our increasing acceptance.”
Whereas a JDU minister objects to this, saying, “We were not in favor of moving away from the current formula. NDA had performed well in the last elections under the leadership of Nitish ji.”
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Tejashwi Yadav from the Grand Alliance has launched a political attack. Addressing a rally in Darbhanga recently, he said, “The public now wants change. This government has failed to fight unemployment, corruption and anarchy.”
Talking about caste equation, Mukesh Sahni’s hold among EBC voters seems to be getting stronger. An EBC leader from Muzaffarpur says, “Sahni ji has given representation to our voice. This time the EBC vote may get divided.”
The tussle between Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi continues on the front of Dalit politics. A Dalit leader says, “The Mahadalit vote will play a decisive role this time. Both the leaders are claiming it.”
Pre-election preparations are in full swing at the administrative level. “Recently, 35 IAS and 40 IPS officers have been transferred. This is a routine exercise, but its electoral importance cannot be denied,” says a senior administrative official.
The implementation of development schemes in government departments is being expedited. “Special emphasis is being laid on road construction, drinking water schemes and rural housing,” says an official of the rural development department.
Talking about young voters, dissatisfaction is clearly visible among them. “We want jobs, not slogans. Both alliances have disappointed us,” says a student leader from Patna College.
The response from women voters is mixed. A female teacher says, “Prohibition has definitely brought relief, but no significant work has been done on women’s safety and education.”
Discussing the situation of farmers, a farmer leader says, “Lack of irrigation facilities and crop price crisis continue. Farmers may change their vote this time.”
A senior opposition leader says, “This government is counting its last days. The public is ready for change.”
Responding to this, a minister from the ruling party said, “We have set new standards of development. The public will give us one more chance.”
In this turbulent political situation of Bihar, one thing is clear – the politics of the state is going to get more heated in the coming days, and every party is busy in its preparations.
