Bhubaneswar, November 21 (IANS). Congress MLA in Odisha has received death threat, after which he has demanded immediate action against the accused from the police administration.
According to the information, Bhawanipatna (Sadar) MLA Sagar Charan Das has written a letter to Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania informing him about the incident. The MLA said in the letter that some armed miscreants have threatened to kill him, against whom immediate action should be taken.
In a letter to the DGP, Das said that on Thursday evening, a group of four-five unidentified people came to his acquaintance Devanand Joshi, a resident of Deipur village, and forcibly asked him for information about his whereabouts. The miscreants allegedly threatened Joshi that he would face dire consequences if he did not cooperate and that the MLA would be “personally targeted”. It is being told that they had guns and other weapons.
Describing this as a serious threat to his security, Das wrote that being a public representative, it is a matter of grave concern where my own security and right to life and liberty are being challenged by illegal institutions. If people associated with me are being threatened openly like this, no one will feel safe.
The MLA urged the DGP to take immediate cognizance of the incident, register an FIR and start investigation. He informed that he is currently out of the city due to pre-scheduled programmes, but assured full cooperation with the authorities upon his return to Bhawanipatna.
Das is a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Bhawanipatna (Sadar) and a member of the Standing Committee-IV and Rules Committee. Sagar Das is a Congress Party MLA and son of Odisha Pradesh Congress President Bhakta Charan Das.
The Congress MLA also mentioned this incident on Twitter. He wrote that it is unfortunate that one of my acquaintances and zone head of Kalahandi district was attacked by unknown miscreants and pressurized to reveal my whereabouts while threatening dire consequences if he did not do so. Also said that there was a threat to my life. Such actions are a matter of grave concern not only for me, but also for the people I serve.
I have taken up this matter with the SP of Kalahandi, Director General of Odisha Police and DIGP of North Western Range of Odisha Police so that such criminals do not go unpunished.
