Earthquake in Afghanistan has caused heavy havoc. The Taliban Home Ministry has said that the death toll in the earthquake in the eastern region of Afghanistan has increased to 610. According to the ministry, more than 1,300 people have been injured. The intensity of the earthquake on the Richter scale measured 6.3.
According to the Taliban government Bakhtar News Agency report, on Monday, local officials said that at least 250 people were killed and more than 500 were injured in several districts of the hill north-eastern Kunar province. The number of dead may increase further. According to the report, the relief teams are struggling to reach some remote areas and their progress has been disrupted due to landslides.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake just before midnight, came to 27 km (16.77 mi) north-east from Jalalabad, a population of about 2 lakhs in Nangarhar province, and relatively low depth came at 8 km (4.97 mi). According to the Reuters News Agency, the Health Ministry spokesman Sharafat Zaman said in a statement, “There are more number of casualties and injured, but since it is difficult to reach this area, our teams are still present on the spot.”
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid posted on X, unfortunately, tonight earthquake has caused loss of life and economic loss in some of our eastern provinces. Currently, local officials and residents are making every effort to save the affected people. Assistance teams from the capital and nearby provinces are also arriving, all available resources will be used for rescue and relief of people.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said in a statement that earthquakes were also felt in many cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces of neighboring Pakistan. According to the USGS, at least 5 tremors were felt in the region, the most powerful jerks were 5.2 intensity a few hours after the early earthquake.
