Thiruvananthapuram, December 3 (). President Draupadi Murmu said on Wednesday that the Indian Navy is the biggest maritime security force of the country. She was the chief guest at the Indian Navy’s Operational Demonstration held a day before Navy Day. This event took place on the famous beach located near the International Airport.
The President said that the work of the Indian Navy is not limited to just protecting the borders, it also plays an important role in preventing maritime threats, fighting piracy, safeguarding our economic zone and securing the sea lanes. He said that serving humanity in difficult times is also the special identity of the Navy. Indian Navy has provided relief and security to thousands of people in difficult situations.
He said that he was very happy to come here before the Navy Day and see the operational demonstration of the Navy. This is not just a formal event, but a tribute to the selfless service, courage and sacrifice of Navy personnel for the defense of the country. He congratulated the sailors and their families.
The President said that the people of the country are proud of the dedication and patriotism of the naval personnel. He said that it is a commendable step by the Indian Navy to organize operational demonstrations in different cities of the country, which enables the common citizens to see closely the capability and efficiency of the Navy.
Referring to India’s historical maritime heritage, he said that our maritime history has been very old and glorious. These range from the ships of the Chola and Chera dynasties to the bravery of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Kunjali Marakkars. He said Kerala has a rich maritime heritage of its own, its warriors once defended the coast against European forces and its ancient port of Muziris served as a vibrant gateway between India and the world.
The President said that today the Indian Ocean is one of the most important maritime spaces in the world and India’s responsibility increases further. Following the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, we promote a collaborative, rules-based maritime system, promoting shared awareness, capacity building and the peaceful use of the oceans.
He said that as India is moving forward in strengthening the blue economy (ocean economy). The role of Navy becomes even more important in securing sea lanes, protecting marine resources, preventing illegal activities and making marine research possible. Our journey towards self-reliance is equally inspiring. This is clearly visible in indigenous platforms such as INS Vikrant, Visakhapatnam-class destroyer, Nilgiri-class frigate and Kalvari-class submarine.
In conclusion, he said that we must together reiterate our resolve to protect our seas, strengthen our shipbuilding capacity and support our navies. He wished Navy Day to all the sailors and their families.
