Chennai, 12 September (IANS). The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has strongly condemned the Sri Lankan pirate attack on the fishermen of Serudur in Nagapattinam. The state unit of the Congress has said that strict action should be taken against the Sri Lankan pirates who attacked and looted fishermen in violation of India’s border.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K.K. Selva Paraundhagai released a press statement on Friday. In this, he told that the fishermen of Nagapattinam who went for fishing have been attacked by the pirates of Sri Lanka. Many fishermen have been injured in this attack. They were also snatched away from nets and fishing equipment.
He said that fishermen of Tamil Nadu, fishing fishing, are facing many difficulties. His security has become a serious issue today.
He said that on the one hand, Sri Lankan Coast Guard is arresting fishermen, on the other hand, Sri Lanka’s pirates are being robbed of fishermen and looting fishermen. The fishermen of Tamil Nadu, which are going to catch fish in the sea, are facing many challenges.
The Congress leader said, “I strongly condemn the barbaric attack of Sri Lankan pirates on fishermen who have been fishing from the serudoor area of Nagapattinam. This cruel act of Sri Lankan pirates is completely unacceptable.”
The Congress leader said that today the security of fishermen has become a serious issue. He said that the Indian Navy should intensify patrolling and ensure the safety of fishermen. Also, the Central Government should take action at the embassy level immediately and solve the problem of fishermen permanently.
He said that the central government should take strict action against the Sri Lankan pirates who attacked and rob Indian fishermen by violating India’s maritime border.
