New Delhi, December 20 (IANS). Yoga gives us peace amidst busy routine, anxiety and stress. If you want to start yoga with an easy, calm and mind-focusing posture, then ‘Sukhasana’ is one of the best yoga asanas.
‘Sukhasana’ is such an effective yoga asana, which can be easily done by everyone from child to elderly. Sukhasana is a disciplined form of the common tradition of sitting cross-legged in Indian culture.
This is a stress-free yoga asana, which is also called ‘Easy Pose’ in English. ‘Sukh’ means pleasure and ‘Aasan’ means sitting position. When we sit in a posture, our body forms a triangle, which also helps strengthen our connection with the earth.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Sukhasana is a meditative posture, which calms the mind, reduces stress, increases energy, and helps in relaxing the body. Its practice improves digestion and overall health. It is done by sitting cross-legged, keeping the spine straight and shoulders loose, placing hands on the knees and focusing on the breath.
To do this, sit on the yoga mat with your legs spread in front. Now bend your leg at the knee and place it under the right thigh. After this, bend the right leg and place it under the left thigh. Keep your spine, neck and head straight. Place the hands on the knees in ‘Gyan Mudra’ or as usual. Close your eyes and take deep, long breaths. In the beginning, sit for 2 to 5 minutes, then gradually you can increase this time.
Its regular practice provides many benefits. If someone has pain in their knees or hips, do it with caution or take the support of a chair. People with high blood pressure should be cautious while taking deep breaths or doing pranayama.
