Tata Harrier and Safari Petrol have a new 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine which gives power of 170 PS and torque of 280 Nm.
Petrol versions of Tata Harrier and Safari are going to be launched in India soon. Both these SUVs will be powered by a brand new 1.5-litre Hyperion Turbo GDi four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 170 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. This engine will be available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options.
Tata has specially designed this engine keeping in mind the power and real-world driving requirements, which includes advanced technologies like Electronic Variable Geometry Turbo, 350-bar Direct Fuel Injection and AI-ML based Smart Shift Assist and Launch Assist. The petrol models will be around 80 kg lighter than the diesel versions.
The engine block has been strengthened, better sound insulation and high-pressure fuel injectors have been used to reduce NVH and vibration. Tata claims that this engine has been through more than 15 lakh kilometers of real-world testing and more than 10,000 hours of bench testing.
Both the Harrier and Safari are based on Tata’s OMEGARC architecture, which is inspired by Land Rover’s D8 platform. Talking about size and road presence, the Harrier retains its powerful 4.6 meter long body, while the Safari comes with its three-row layout. The petrol Harrier gets Oyster White and Titan Brown interior theme, Benecke Kaliko leatherette seats and 18-inch Lunar Graphite alloy wheels.
The petrol Safari comes with Carnelian Red interior, premium leatherette seats, steel black dashboard accents and 19-inch Blackstone alloy wheels with red brake callipers. Both SUVs will also get new exterior color options like Nitro Crimson and Carbon Black.
Talking about the features, it has a large 36.9 cm cinematic touchscreen, which is based on Samsung Neo QLED technology. Along with this, a 10-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos support is available. Apart from this, Arcade App Suite with streaming apps, in-built Mappls navigation, iRA 2.0 connected tech, Alexa Home-to-Car integration and JLR-inspired command shifter in the automatic variant are also provided.
The Harrier and Safari petrol versions get features like powered front seats (with memory and welcome function), ventilated seats, second row ventilation in some Safari variants, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and gesture-controlled powered tailgate.
In terms of safety, both the SUVs come with 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP and they have Level 2+ ADAS package with more than 22 features. Variantly, the petrol engine will be available in Smart, Pure, Adventure, Fearless and Accomplished trims, while Dark, Stealth and Ultra editions will give more choices to the customers.
