New Delhi, January 5 (IANS). In the winter season, cold winds, less sunlight and changing temperatures have a direct impact on the body. For common people this season brings a little laziness and laziness, but for pregnant women this time is even more cautious. During pregnancy, many hormonal and physical changes occur in the body, due to which the immune system becomes slightly weak. In such a situation, cold, cough, joint pain and fatigue can quickly affect the body.

Both Ayurveda and science believe that if proper routine, food and care are maintained, a pregnant woman can keep herself and her unborn baby completely safe even in winter.

According to Ayurveda, Vata dosha increases in winter, which causes dryness, pain and cold in the body. If a pregnant woman keeps her body warm, Vata remains in balance and the body feels comfortable. Scientifically speaking, the body spends more energy in cold, which can increase fatigue. Therefore it is very important to wear woolen and comfortable clothes. Keeping the head and feet covered prevents body heat from escaping. Sitting in the sun for a while during the day is an easy way to get Vitamin D, which is essential for the mother’s bones and the baby’s development.

Thirst is less in winter, but the need for water does not decrease. Ayurveda says that lukewarm water keeps the body’s digestion fine and helps in flushing out toxic elements. Science also believes that drinking enough water reduces the risk of constipation, fatigue and urine infections, which are common problems during pregnancy. Lukewarm water, soup and light herbal tea keep the body warm from within and improve blood circulation. Due to this, nutrition reaches the child properly.

Suddenly going into cold and hot environment can be harmful for a pregnant woman. In Ayurveda, it is considered to disturb the natural balance of the body. At the same time, science tells us that the body does not get time to adapt to sudden changes in temperature, which can cause cold, fever or weakness. If you have to go out of the house, then stopping at the door or balcony for a while and going out helps the body to gradually adjust to the weather.

Food and drink are the biggest strength of a pregnant woman in winter. According to Ayurveda, nutritious and light hot food gives energy to the body in this season. Seasonal fruits and vegetables like carrots, beetroot, spinach and sweet potatoes help in increasing blood and provide essential nutrients for the growth of the child. Science also considers these foods to be rich in iron, fiber and antioxidants, which strengthen the mother’s immune system.
