In view of the rapidly changing geopolitical situations and tensions in West Asia, the Government of India has issued an important travel advisory for its citizens. After the recent incidents in Venezuela, the Ministry of External Affairs has now exercised caution regarding Iran as well. This step of the government reflects the growing concerns regarding security in the area.

Big decision of the Ministry of External Affairs after recent developments, advice to avoid non-essential travel to Iran until further notice

According to the latest instructions issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, in view of the developments in recent times, Indian citizens have been advised to avoid traveling to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice. The Ministry has made it clear that until the situation becomes normal or no new information is released, travel should be considered only when absolutely necessary. This advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of citizens.

Special instructions for Indians living in Iran, asked to register in embassy and stay away from protest areas

The government has issued instructions not only for travelers but also for those Indians who are already present in Iran. It has been said in the circular of the Ministry of External Affairs that Indian citizens and People of Indian Origin (PIO) living in Iran need to exercise extreme caution at this time. They have been advised to completely avoid going to protests or crowded areas. Also, citizens have been asked to keep an eye on the website and social media handles of the Indian Embassy in Tehran so that they can get the latest updates. Indians on resident visa have also been advised to register themselves with the embassy.

After Venezuela, now attention is on Iran, alert issued for two countries due to political instability and American action

Just before Iran, the Indian government had issued a similar warning regarding Venezuela. The situation there remains tense and uncertain following recent military and political instability, particularly US military action and developments involving President Nicolas Maduro. In view of this, the Ministry of External Affairs has strictly advised Indian citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Venezuela. The Indians who are currently present there have been suggested to limit their movement and stay indoors only.

Helpline number released for Indians present in Caracas, appeal to contact immediately in case of emergency

For assistance to Indians present in Venezuela, the Ministry has asked to remain in constant touch with the Indian Embassy in Caracas. In case of any emergency or help, the Embassy has set up an email ID ([email protected]) and has issued an emergency helpline number (+58-412-9584288). This number is also available for WhatsApp calls. The ministry says that the situation in both the countries is very sensitive, hence citizens should follow these instructions while giving priority to security.
