According to sources, the election of BJP President will be held on January 19-20. Nominations will be filed on January 19 and elections will be held on January 20. Ten party and organization leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, will act as proposers.
Nitin Naveen’s candidature is the strongest
Quoting party sources, it has been said that Nitin Naveen is the frontrunner in the race for the post of President. If Nitin is made the national president, he will be the youngest person to hold this post. His tenure will last till January 2029. His tenure may be extended due to the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2029. Earlier, in 2020, JP Nadda was also made the acting president, after which he was made the permanent president.
Nitin was elected MLA for five consecutive times
On 15 December 2025, Nitin Naveen was appointed the working president of BJP. However, due to inauspicious timing of Kharmas he took over the post later. 45-year-old Nitin Naveen is the Road Construction Minister in the Bihar government. His father, Naveen Kishore Sinha, was a prominent BJP leader. Nitin has been elected MLA from Bankipur constituency for five consecutive times in 2006, 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025.
Final phase of internal elections in 29 states
According to sources, the party’s organizational election process has been completed in more than half of the BJP ruled states. Internal elections have been completed in 29 out of 37 states. BJP state presidents of these states will submit a set of nomination papers in support of Nitin Naveen for the post of national president. Apart from this, BJP National Council members will also file separate nomination in favor of Nitin Naveen.
How is BJP National President elected?
According to Section 19 of the BJP Constitution and Rules, an Electoral College is formed by combining the members of the National and State Councils. This college elects the national president. Elections are held according to the rules made by the Executive Committee of the party. There are two conditions for contesting the election of party president:
The candidate must be a primary member of the party for at least 15 years.
The candidate must be proposed by at least 20 members of the Electoral College.
The procedure for electing the Chairman is as follows:
A nomination form has to be filled.
Voting takes place after nomination.
Voting boxes are counted in Delhi.
A new president is elected.
As per the constitution and rules of BJP, an eligible member can serve as the President for two consecutive terms of three years each.
