Chennai . The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday strongly criticized the Congress and its allies in the DMK-led alliance. The BJP accused him of ‘political hypocrisy’ and ‘anti-national conduct’ following protests in Chennai against the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad, in a statement, alleged that the protests organized on March 1 and 2 to mourn Khamenei, who was killed in the US-Israel strikes on February 28, reflect a wrong political agenda that harms India’s national interests. The BJP leader said the attempt by some protesting groups to march towards the US Consulate in Chennai during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu was irresponsible and risked disturbing public order.
According to the party, such protests targeting foreign diplomatic missions were inappropriate and could damage India’s international image.
Prasad also accused the Congress leadership, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, of making statements questioning the Indian government’s stance on developments in West Asia.
He argued that such comments are politically motivated and could weaken national unity at a time when the government is focusing on the safety of Indian citizens in the region.
Highlighting the government’s diplomatic initiatives, the BJP spokesperson said Prime Minister Modi has held urgent consultations with the leaders of several Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, to ensure the safety of Indian citizens amid rising tensions in West Asia.
