A massive landslide has occurred in Indonesia’s West Java province after heavy rains. So far, 8 people have been confirmed dead in this accident, while more than 80 people are buried under the debris. The rescue work is going on fast but due to bad weather there are difficulties.
When and where did the accident happen?
The incident occurred in the West Bandung district of West Java between 2:30 and 3:00 am on Saturday morning. Pasir Kuning area of Pasir Langu village has been most affected. When people were in deep sleep, a part of the mountain broke and fell on the houses. Due to continuous rain the water level of the river had also increased.

Army soldiers also missing
According to reports, some soldiers who had gone to help in the relief work may also get hit by the debris. The Siliwangi Military Command is investigating whether their 23 soldiers are also among the missing. This information is not completely confirmed yet and is being confirmed.
What difficulties are being faced in the rescue work?
The rescue team is facing a lot of trouble due to heavy rain and mud. The soil is still wet and unstable, posing a risk of another landslide. Army, police and local people are together trying to find the people buried under the debris. So far 24 people have been evacuated safely.
What help has the government given?
The Governor of West Java has announced help for the families of the victims. People whose houses have been destroyed will be given assistance of 10 million rupiah (Indonesian currency) for temporary housing and essential goods. Also, other families living within 100 meters of the incident site have also been evacuated for safety.
