The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not declared a holiday on this day. However, due to the proposed strike of bank unions, branches may remain closed at many places. Due to this, the general public may face problems in their banking transactions. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a nationwide strike on January 27, 2026. This organization represents employees of public sector banks and some old private banks. Therefore, banking services are likely to be affected in many cities and districts on Tuesday.
What is the reason for the strike?
The strike by bank employees is due to their demands related to their working hours. The unions are demanding that they be given the opportunity to work only 5 days a week, with both Saturday and Sunday being holidays. According to the proposal, bank employees are willing to work 40 minutes more every day from Monday to Friday in exchange for all Saturdays being off. At present, bank employees work 5 or 6 days a week. They get weekly off on Sunday. Apart from this, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
