There is great relief news for the drivers. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken an important decision to simplify the process of issuing Fastag. Now, while issuing Fastag for new cars, jeeps and vans, the requirement of ‘Know Your Vehicle’ i.e. KYV (Know Your Vehicle) process has been abolished. This new system will come into effect from February 1.

After this decision of NHAI, now vehicle owners will not have to go through a long and complex verification process to get Fastag made. Earlier, while getting Fastag for a new vehicle, it used to take a lot of time for document verification and KYV verification, due to which people had to face inconvenience. Many times there was delay in tag activation despite having valid documents.

Not only for new vehicles, but owners of vehicles which already have Fastag installed will no longer need to get routine KYV done. This will provide relief to lakhs of drivers, who had to go through the hassle of updating documents and verification from time to time.

In fact, since the implementation of the Fastag system, there have been continuous complaints from users that even after purchasing and activating the tag, banks or related agencies delay in the name of verification. Many times the tag did not work at the toll plaza, leading to long queues and wastage of passengers’ time. In view of such cases, the government has decided to simplify the process.

After the implementation of the new guidelines, both issuing and using Fastag will become easier. Now there will be no need for frequent KYV updates or re-verification. This will not only save the time of vehicle owners, but the traffic at the toll plaza will also remain smooth.

Experts believe that this step will further strengthen the digital toll collection system. FASTag aims to ensure cashless and seamless payments at toll plazas, thereby speeding up vehicular movement. The simple process will motivate more people to adopt Fastag.

NHAI has appealed to vehicle owners to purchase Fastag only from authorized banks or agencies and keep their documents in order. The new system is expected to make the Fastag system more transparent and convenient than before.
