Surat, January 31 (). Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday said that development projects worth more than Rs 4,870 crore have been launched across the state in Gujarat in the month of January.

He described this progress as a symbol of the government’s commitment towards timely governance and improvement in living standards.

Addressing an event in Surat, Patel inaugurated development projects worth Rs 173.78 crore by Surat Municipal Corporation and laid the foundation stone of other projects worth Rs 169 crore.

“Gujarat has adopted the work culture envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where planning and implementation are so time-bound that the foundation stone and inauguration take place within the same government tenure,” the Chief Minister said.

He said the pace and scale of development has been set with an aim to directly benefit the citizens. “In the very first month of 2026, work on projects worth more than Rs 4,870 crore has been started to ease the living standards of people across the state,” Patel said.

During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated 1,304 renovated housing units of Gotlawadi Tenement of Katargam area, the construction of which has been completed under the Public Housing Redevelopment Scheme-2016 on public-private partnership basis.

They also conducted computerized lottery to allot houses to the beneficiaries. “Through public participation, these families are now getting safe, modern and comfortable homes,” he said.

Speaking at the newly constructed Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Dabholi, built at a cost of Rs 70 crore, Patel said Surat has become “an excellent model of development, cleanliness and urbanisation” in the country.

He said that Surat, famous as the diamond and textile capital, is also a leader in cleanliness, green transportation and sustainable development.

“The urban development journey that started in 2005 has today made Gujarat an ideal state for overall development,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that the balanced development across the city is the result of sustained efforts of the government and the local administration.
