Security agencies have taken major action after the horrific suicide attack on the Shia mosque in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed on Saturday that the main mastermind and helpers of the attack have been arrested. Security forces have detained a total of 4 key people in the overnight operation, including an Afghan national who was planning the attack.
Who was the attacker and how was he arrested?
Investigation by security agencies has identified the suicide bomber as 32-year-old Yasir, who was a resident of Peshawar. During the raid, police detained the attacker’s mother from a posh area of Islamabad and his brother and brother-in-law from Peshawar and Karachi. According to officials, the mastermind is related to the terrorist organization Daesh (Islamic State).
What was the loss during the raid?
This operation for arrest was conducted in Peshawar, Nowshera, Karachi and Islamabad. An exchange of fire broke out between security forces and terrorists during a raid in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which a police sub-inspector was martyred and five other security personnel were injured. Responsibility for this attack was taken by ‘Islamic State in Pakistan’.
What steps did the government take?
Emergency has been declared regarding security in Islamabad. Minister of State for Home Talal Chaudhry said that the investigation report will be submitted to the Prime Minister within 72 hours. The government has announced special compensation (Shuhada Package) for the families of the dead and injured. So far, more than 31 people have died in the attack and about 170 people are injured.
