Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Media Council, visited the Huawei Research Center and Shanghai Media Group (SMG) in Shanghai, China. The purpose of the visit, which took place on 12 February 2026, was to understand new technologies and smart city solutions in the media sector. During this, he also took stock of the work being done on Artificial Intelligence and digital security.

What is special about Huawei Village?
Sheikh Sultan visited the 2.2 million square meter Huawei Village located in Shanghai. There are more than 100 buildings and laboratories in this huge campus. About 30,000 employees work here. During the visit, he understood the company’s business strategy and product development. He also saw the modern machines and methods used for digital infrastructure, security systems and data storage.
Emphasis on use of AI in media
In this visit, there was discussion on improving media through technology. He looked at how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used in sports coverage and news translation. After his visit to Huawei, he also held a meeting with executives of Shanghai Media Group. In this, both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation and future development in media technology.
