Kolkata, February 13 (IANS). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday congratulated Tariq Rahman on the victory of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the general elections held in Bangladesh. Voting was held in the neighboring country on Thursday and the results became clear on Friday.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while posting on her social media platform ‘X’, also wished the people of Bangladesh for participating in the elections in a peaceful manner.
She wrote in the ‘X’ post, “My hearty congratulations to all the brothers and sisters of Bangladesh, ‘Shubhonandan’. Happy Ramadan to all of you in advance. Congratulations to my Tariq Bhai, his party and all parties for this big victory. I pray that you all remain happy and healthy. May our relations with Bangladesh always remain cordial.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Tariq Rehman and BNP leadership on the election victory. PM Modi posted on the social media platform
PM Modi further wrote in the ‘X’ post, “I look forward to working with you to strengthen our diverse relationships and advance our common development goals.”
However, till the time of writing the report, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari and BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya had not issued any statement on the Bangladesh elections.
Former state BJP president and current Union Minister of State Sukant Majumdar reposted the Prime Minister’s statement on his social media handle. At the same time, former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said in a brief conversation with the media that he is hopeful that relations between India and Bangladesh will improve in the coming days.
