Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) has arrived in Medina on his annual visit. Between 20 and 22 February 2026, he offered prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque and visited historical sites in the city. The most important part of this visit was the visit to the Quba Mosque, where the largest expansion work in history is underway. The Crown Prince met with Prince Salman bin Sultan, Governor of Medina, to view the progress of the ongoing works.
What is going to change in Masjid Quba?
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched the ‘King Salman Project’ for the expansion of Masjid Quba in 2022. This is the biggest construction work in the history of this mosque. Umrah pilgrims and the people living there will directly benefit from this. After the completion of this project, the shortage of space here will end and the facilities will become quite modern.
Capacity will increase: Earlier about 20,000 people could offer Namaz here, which will now increase to 66,000. Area: The area of the mosque is being increased from 5,035 square meters to 50,000 square meters. Historical sites: 57 old wells and paths around the mosque are also being protected and developed.
Rules and facilities for general public and passengers
It is important for Indian and other foreign travelers visiting Madinah to know that the rules for offering namaz in Masjid Quba are quite simple. Like ‘Rouda Sharif’ of the Prophet’s Mosque, there is no need for booking through any app or permit to visit here. The administration has decided to keep it open 24 hours for the convenience of the people.
A 3 kilometer pedestrian path has been built between the Prophet’s Mosque and Masjid Quba. Pilgrims often prefer to travel on foot through this route to fulfill the Sunnah. According to Islamic beliefs, a person who leaves his home and goes to the Masjid Quba and offers two Rakat Namaz there, gets a reward equivalent to one Umrah.
