Alirajpur, February 27 (IANS). Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday said the Bhagoriya festival symbolizes tribal culture, social affection and traditional values as well as their deep feeling towards nature.
The Chief Minister made this statement after participating in the Bhagoria Utsav in Udaigarh town of Alirajpur district. Udaigarh is one of the tribal dominated areas of Madhya Pradesh.
He further said that the depth of this traditional festival can be experienced only by participating in it.
He said that this event shows the strong identity of tribal culture and the sensitive approach of the state government.
The Chief Minister reached the venue through a road show, where he was warmly welcomed by tribal artists and local people.
Dressed in colorful traditional clothes, the artistes, including both men and women, performed traditional dances to welcome the chief guest.
Later, addressing the people, the Chief Minister assured that the State Government is fully prepared to save and promote tribal traditions and is continuously promoting such cultural programmes.
Bhagoria Utsav is a week-long tribal festival held just before Holi in Western Madhya Pradesh (Jhabua, Alirajpur, Khargone, Barwani and Dhar), which marks the beginning of spring and harvest season.
During this time, where people buy goods for Holi, it is a traditional market for the Bhil and Bhilala tribes and a celebration of love, culture and music.
The festival also includes a ‘de-addiction campaign’ in some areas, in which participants are encouraged to avoid drug addiction during the celebrations.
Before attending the Bhagoriya festival, Chief Minister Yadav visited Bhabra village, the birthplace of great freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad on his 95th martyrdom day and offered flowers to him.
In another event in Alirajpur, Chief Minister Yadav also performed ‘bhoomi-pujan’ and inaugurated different development projects worth more than Rs 180 crore in Chandrashekhar Azad Nagar.
