Bengaluru, March 3 (IANS). BJP MLC C.T. Ravi on Tuesday alleged that the Congress party puts political interests above national interests. The Congress also criticized the party’s stance on issues related to national security and foreign policy.
He said that India, as a sovereign country, takes decisions as per its national interest and the demands of the situation.
He said that the policy of non-alignment was a temporary thinking adopted in a particular historical context and said that in matters of national security, India takes necessary decisions from time to time as per its strategic interest.
“For Congress, political interest seems more important than national interest,” he alleged.
Ravi further claimed that the Congress was primarily concerned about saving its vote bank.
He alleged that BJP does not adopt such an approach and said that there should not be different stands on national issues on the basis of party or community.
Ravi expressed hope that the situation will become clearer after March 4. He said that two flights from Abu Dhabi and Dubai have already arrived in Bengaluru and the situation is gradually stabilising.
He said that the Ministry of External Affairs has advised not to panic and has shared the contact details of the Consulate Office for help. He said India has earlier also rescued stranded civilians in Syria and parts of Africa, and reiterated that there is no need for concern.
On the allegations of surveillance and phone tapping, Ravi said that a former chief minister and opposition leader had made such claims and added that he must have had some clues or evidence to do so.
He said that tapping the phones of his own MLAs could help in understanding their plans and it could be seen as an attempt to save the government and the chair.
He also questioned what steps were being taken to understand the sentiments of the people.
This comment comes amid the ongoing political controversy in Karnataka over phone tapping allegations and infighting within the ruling party.
