New Delhi, 15 September (). The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said on Monday that 49,573 cases of dengue have been reported in India as of August and mosquito -borne disease has caused 42 deaths.

There have been 964 dengue cases in Delhi till 31 August 2025, which is less than 1,215 cases in the same period of 2024. The Ministry informed Union Health Minister JP Nadda in a high level review meeting about this.

Apart from this, dengue cases have also seen an increase in neighboring states of Delhi-NCR. 1,646 cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh, 298 cases in Haryana and 1,181 cases in Rajasthan.

In 2024, 2,33,519 dengue cases were reported across the country, in which 297 people died. The ministry said that this year the outbreak of dengue is still low, but Health Minister Nadda warned the states to be cautious for sudden increase in matters.

The Health Minister urged the states to review their preparations again, especially keeping in mind the long rainy season and waterlogging situation.

The meeting was organized to evaluate the preparations for the current status of dengue, municipal corporations, hospitals and state governments. Also, to ensure that there is no lack of monitoring, case management and vector control.

Nadda also emphasized the need to conduct special campaigns in schools, labor camps and dengue affected areas. “We must be prepared in advance to deal with potential epidemic,” he said.

The Union Health Minister gave instructions towards taking several important steps for the control of dengue in Delhi and NCR. He advised to speed up the ‘decrease in source’ and to clean the rain -filled containers to strengthen vector control. Also, instructions were given to sprinkle disinfectant smoke in areas with increasing cases of fever.

Nadda also said that hospitals should be specially prepared, including enough beds, blood components, medicines, pesticides and diagnosis facilities. Also, instructions have been given to keep Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals alert and to alert other public and private hospitals.

The ministry informed that a strategy has been implemented at the national level for the prevention of dengue, which is called ‘Octalog’. This strategy is based on eight columns, including monitoring, case management, vector management, outbreak reaction, capacity building, change in behavior communication, inter-ministerial coordination, and monitoring and supervision.

The Ministry of Health also stated that the government has already taken several steps, including issuing advice, high-level review meetings, training on case management, free diagnosis facilities, community awareness campaigns, inter-ministers’ coordination and providing financial assistance under the National Health Mission.
