India has issued advisory for its citizens living in Nepal on Tuesday. This step was taken when the violent demonstrations being run by generation Z in the neighboring country spoiled the situation. So far, at least 20 people have died and more than 300 have been injured in these demonstrations.
The Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) said that he is keeping an eye on the situation in Nepal and expresses deep sorrow over the death of so many youths. The ministry expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured to recover soon.
India also said that curfew has been imposed in Kathmandu and many other cities, so Indian citizens present in Nepal should be cautious and follow the instructions issued by the local administration. Describing Nepal as “close friends and neighbors”, India appealed to all parties to restrain and resolve the dispute through negotiations.
In fact, the Nepal government had recently banned 26 social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube and X (Twitter). In protest against this decision, especially the youth started demonstrations on a large scale. The situation became uncontrollable and the army had to deploy as clashes from the police.
Taking moral responsibility for these demonstrations and deaths, Nepal’s Home Minister Ramesh writer resigned. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while showing a tough stance, said that his government will not tolerate any kind of chaos and ego. But amid rising pressure, the government had to bow down and withdraw the decision of social media ban. The Ministry of Information ordered the restoration of all the closed platforms.
